Essential Beauty Items

I have been preparing, in the 11th hour per usual, for my annual trip to visit with one of my dearest friends and it got me thinking about the beauty essentials that I don't leave home without.

First up:

From http://www.anandaapothecary.com/

Milk and Honey™
For daily use, our most precious oils in a balanced blend for daily face care. Rejuvenative, cleansing and nourishing with a fantastic aroma.

In a base of Hazelnut and Rosehip Seed oil - recommended for daily use to reduce appearance of wrinkles, sun damage and scarring. Contains Helichrysum, Lavender, Sandalwood, Neroli, Carrot Seed, Rose Geranium, Roman Chamomile, Jasmine Grandiflorum, Palmarosa and Ylang Ylang #1. Rosehip seed itself has vitamin A compounds that act like natural 'Retin-A', without the side effects of excessive drying and photosensitivity.

This stuff is awesome. I get carded when I am with my 16 year old daughter or, if I am not drinking, they ask if we want one check or two. Makes her crazy but I am definitely not complaining.

Along with a little mineral foundation:

mascara (any kind), a little lip gloss (any kind) and sometimes a little eyeliner and shadow, I am good to go but not as particular about. If that changes, you'll be the next to know. The bare minerals are essential though. I love this makeup.

For cleaning I use Dr. Hauska cleansing creme. I have been using it for at least 10 years. Tried and true and essential. www.drhauska.com

For my hair, which is fine, curly (tending frizzy in this coastal climate 9 months out of the year) and colored religiously, this Morrocan Oil is hair manna from the gods. You can use it generously and you don't look like you've been attacked by a vat of whale blubber. My hair feels so silky and healthy. I never go anywhere without it. Ever. It would be a true bourgeois crisis if I left it behind. I would cry. It is excellent for all hair types or so days my hair dresser. It is that one hair product I have been waiting for all my life.

My slant tweezermans (www.tweezerman.com) - nothing else works on my Brooke Sheilds eyebrows. Also a life changing discovery back in the day.

And that is it. Those are the only 5 things that where I go, they go. Everything else is just gravy or easily bought at the corner drugstore.

Now to get over my anxiety about airport security confiscating them. I hate to check a bag for a weekend jaunt.

Have a good one!

Lobster

I love it. This is that lobster roll I told you about at Port of Call in Southport. To.Die.For. I want another one right now!

Then this week, Stylegirl, Jess James posted this adorable lobster print dress on Facebook.

And that made me think of this dress I was debating buying which has nothing to do with lobsters except it is the same color as the lobsters above.
This is how my brain works. I took a picture of myself in it to text to a friend because I was shopping alone.
I did not post it to Twitter. :-)  I also did not buy it but Vitamin Sea, also in Southport (same owner as Sole Searching), is filled with lovely, lovely pretties.

The shoes I did buy and they are serious - from Sole Searching. I will pick the shoes over the dress every single time. What about you?

Hump Day

I'd never seen this before and it was kind of surprising and unexpected like this cold I have - except way better. I hate this cold and I really love this picture.

Liv's summer - oh to be young again!

She spent most of the summer at UNCSA learning about movies and how to make them.

And this is the poster for her movie, "Burning Through A Cigarette and Synonyms for Intimacy." Title choice is a long story but basically it was her take on romance and was surprisingly sophisticated and, not so surprisingly, beautiful.

It was fantastic. If I can figure out a way to post it, I will. She was nominated for best score and best visual effects.

I hope to have her for a few more years before she catapults into the galaxy.

Feeling pretty happy that I decided to have three children.

A Little Obsessed with the sayings here lately

It is sort of freshman in college of me but at least I was inspired in college!

Amen. Rude people suck. But then again, you just never know. . . .

Thank goodness for that!

Sometimes you do have to purge the toxic people and situations from your life.

That one just cracks me up. What woman has not wanted to say something like that to some atrocious little wanker that is standing in the way?
Don't get me wrong, I just have a thing for real men and Winnie the Pooh.

He really is a little Zen Master.

And don't forget

Happy Hump Day aka my Friday!

No, I am not dead

I just haven't had anything to say but here is a little bit of what has been on my mind.

If you come to Southport, you have to go to the new restaurant Port of Call for lunch and have the lobster roll. It is divine and worth a trip. Plus they are selling yummy stuff from Southern Season in there and that makes my Chapel Hill heart leap.

I want these lights in my kitchen instead of the ones I have.

And I would absolutley love to do this in Sadie's room.

And this about sums it up.

Kidding! Sort of. . .

Happy happy summer!
